The other day in the interview to the German mass media the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andrey Klyuyev said, providing that the political crisis gets deeper, Ukraine can lose its integrity. According to Mr. Klyuyev, what occurred on Maidan at night on November 30 (when riot police violently dispersed the protest meeting of students which provoked all further events in Ukraine) is a big tragedy and provocation.
“The fact that innocent people suffered is a grief. It is very bad. I believe, what occurred was a provocation of the purest water”, – he said.
Andrey Klyuyev also said such problems can be resolved only peacefully.
“If we continue to accuse each other, it is a way to the country’s breakdown even not on two, but on three parts. And such scenarios unfortunately are possible in our country”, – the NSDC Secretary emphasized.
Mr. Klyuyev noted that at the request of president Yanukovych he personally was engaged in the organization of the round table and conducted negotiations with the opposition.
“Actually we agreed that half of the problems could be settled in the negotiation process. I directly conducted negotiations with representatives of the opposition on who and in what format will take part in its meeting”, – he summarized.
The personality of Mr. Klyuyev can be treated in different ways – after all, he is the one whom the Ukrainian opposition accuses of the dispersal of the peaceful protest action. However, his words about the possible split-up of Ukraine in case of the further escalation of the conflict deserve attention.
Ukrainians on social networks have started to more actively discuss the question of what option would be better – for Ukraine – the so-called “Belarusian” or “Yugoslavian” scenario. The first one means the unitary country, but without democratic freedoms, and the second one, as it is known, – the split of Ukraine on couple states with the foregoing violence and civil war. It is symptomatic that the majority of people discussing this subject and being supporters of different political camps, have already decided everything for themselves – it is better to have two (three) Ukraines, because allegedly mental distinctions between representatives of the West and the East of Ukraine are too great.
Thanks God, similar moods are meanwhile expressed only by representatives of marginal groups and certain journalists only on social networks and have no massive character. However, already the very fact of actualization of a similar discussion is a disturbing call for Ukrainian and European politicians the majority of which have, obviously, got too much absorbed in playing their games.
We shouldn’t also forget about the fact that such a call is not disturbing only for Russia and its political leadership, which would be quite happy with such scenario of development of the situation. The absence of strong Ukraine on the territory between the EU and Russia and the existence of several weak, controllable states there is, obviously, a “golden dream” of colonel Putin who continues to think by means of categories of his previous profession.
Therefore, both Ukrainian politicians and their western partners should stop getting on nerves of each other and, finally, sit down to the table. And it is not important whether it will be round or oval, it is important not to allow the development of the scenario which is not favorable neither to Ukraine, nor to Europe. It is obvious that Europe is capable of influencing both the Ukrainian power and the opposition, and this way helping if not Ukraine, then itself .
